Welcome to MS Workplace, the first-of-its-kind online initiative that provides MS-specific career advice, workplace tips, and job postings for the MS community. If you or someone you know is living with MS and wants help finding appropriate and fulfilling employment opportunities, this site is intended for you. MS Workplace is also for employers looking to learn more about the needs of employees with MS so that they can better support them. Why do people with MS need customized information? According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, more than 400,000 people in the U.S. are living with MS. Every hour, someone is diagnosed with MS, most of whom are between the prime career-building years of 20 and 50. This makes work and career development a central issue of concern for the MS community. An important first step for anyone considering a workplace change is to understand their goals, options, abilities, and how to match with potential job opportunities. It can be difficult for people with MS to know what appropriate job opportunities are available to them. Given the unpredictable nature of the disease, people living with MS do not know how they will be feeling one day to the next so, finding a job that offers flexibility and support is important. What can MS Workplace do for me? MS Workplace addresses the common challenges that people living with MS can face related to work, providing expert advice and linking them to jobs across the country that may be appropriate and fulfilling. Monster® the premier global online employment portal and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society the nation’s leading MS organization have joined together with Biogen Idec and Elan to make this free resource available. National Multiple Sclerosis Society MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS. In 2006 alone, through our home office and 50 state network of chapters, we devoted nearly $126 million to programs that enhanced more than one million lives. To move us closer to a world free of MS, the Society also invested more than $46 million to support 380 research projects around the world. We are people who want to do something about MS now. Studies show that early and ongoing treatment with an FDA-approved therapy may reduce future disease activity for many people with multiple sclerosis. Talk to your health care professional and contact the National MS Society at www.nationalmssociety.org or 1-800-344-4867 to learn about ways to help manage multiple sclerosis and about current research that may one day reveal a cure. © Biogen Idec.
